Public and private mean different things

  • Public list: anyone can view it. It may appear on your public profile and can be found by people who can access your profile.
  • Private list: it is hidden from public profiles and search. Only the people or groups you select can open it inside Hushful.
  • Guest link: anyone who has the link can view the list, even without an account, and can forward it. Treat a guest link like a public key and revoke it if it travels too far.

Changing a list to private does not erase information someone already saw, copied, or saved.

Your profile and personal details

  • Profile discoverability is off by default. When it is off, people cannot search for your username.
  • When discoverability is on, your username and profile picture can appear in search. Your email address is never shown there.
  • Hushful asks for your full birthday during account setup. It is private by default: only the month and day can be shared, while the birth year stays on the server for age-range safety checks and is never shown to other users.
  • Birthdays and custom profile attributes are private by default. Each one has its own visibility choice: public, friends, selected people, or only you.
  • Only share details such as sizes or preferences when you are comfortable with the selected audience. Selected people must be accepted friends, and access is checked on the server.
  • Hushful derives an adult or under-18 age range from the private birthday. Adult users may choose to limit their profile or individual lists to adults; those flagged profiles and lists are hidden from under-18 accounts and accounts without a completed birthday. A user’s age is not displayed.

Keep conversations comfortable

Comments and item notes are visible to people who can access that list. Mentions are limited to people who can access the same list, and the tagged person receives a notification. Do not share another person’s private information without permission.

Private list content is not automatically scanned. That protects private conversations from invasive inspection, but it also means you should report anything unsafe or inappropriate that you see.

Block and report

Open a person’s profile to block them or report their account. A block stops further contact through Hushful. Reports are reviewed by Hushful administrators and may lead to content removal, access limits, or account suspension when appropriate.

Hushful prohibits grooming, sexual exploitation of minors, non-consensual intimate content, threats, hate, harassment, doxxing, scams, and other illegal or abusive material. Hushful cannot guarantee that every harmful, adult, deceptive, or offensive item will be caught automatically. If something feels unsafe, do not engage with it—block the account and report it from the app, or submit feedback from Account → Send feedback.

For families

Hushful is not directed to children under 13. Adults should review public profiles, public lists, guest links, and friend connections before sharing them with children. Use private lists and keep discoverability off when you want a smaller circle.
